the PRAYER...
Everlasting God, you give strength to the weak and power to the faint. Make us agents of your healing and wholeness, that your good news may be made known to the ends of your creation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

the READING...
That evening, at sunset, they brought to [Jesus] all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door.

Mark 1:29-39

In the beginning, we were carried to the font. At the end, we'll be carried to the grave. And in between? Well, we like to pretend we stand on our own two feet! Masters of our fate! Captains of our destiny! Every coming and going an expression of ability and choice.

But love - if it's love, at all - doesn't mean we stand alone. It's about needing and being needed. Being carried and carrying. Like that evening in Capernaum when all the sick and all the possessed were brought to Jesus! They didn't come all by themselves. They were brought! Carried! Others doing for them what they couldn't - wouldn't - do for themselves!

Love! Believing! Being carried by and carrying... Family! Neighbor! Friend! Samaritans we never knew before! To the font! To the grave! And every step along the way!
